Gina Washington

Gina Washington was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated with an MFA in Photography. She considers herself a Child of the Universe and has traveled to many places collecting images and connecting artists. She has exhibited her work internationally and won awards for portraiture as she creates art by “any means necessary.”  As an entrepreneur, she founded Mateza Gallery LLC on Etsy. As a master collaborator, she co-founded The Visit Arts Collective. They have created experiential exhibitions, and educational programs incorporating music, poetry, dance, and the visual arts to engage the participants and challenge their notions of the human experience through the arts. 

As an artist, Gina thrives off of re-examining childhood sayings and fairytales. She wants to understand the human condition, especially how young girls grow up. As a multidisciplinary artist, the idea dictates the medium when she creates. The heart of art-making comes from a long line of womyn created because they had an overwhelming urge to use their hands and imaginations in non-traditional ways.
