Lasaundra Robinson

LaSaundra Robinson is an artist living and working in the Cleveland area. She studied fine arts painting at Ohio University. She works mostly in oil and acrylic. A lot of her work is figurative or portraits of black women. Her work is about finding yourself and being comfortable in your own skin. Letting your inner self and a light show through. She feels a lot of people hide there true selves and stereotypes keep us from reaching our true potential. Her art helps her to uncover her true self and open up to the world. She uses portraits of women, flowers, and rainbows along with line, color, and pattern to help express her ideas. The women are a reflection of herself. The flowers give us growth, beauty, Mother Nature, and divine femininity. The rainbows represent God’s promise, weathering storms in your life, and finding the pot of gold at the end of your journey. The lines and patterns in my work simply represent finding your way. She wants to make paintings that allow you to feel the person you want to be.
LaSaundra’s more abstract portraits are about the strength and beauty of black women, letting their inner light come through. These paintings a lot of times start with just an abstract mix of bright colors and neutrals. A lot of times she is just playing around on an old used canvas testing colors and using up excess paint from my palette. She loves to use old canvases and give them new life. Even old paintings no one wants it from the thrift store and old canvas boards from past painting classes. Sometimes those old images and color choices can inspire something completely new and beautiful.
Her goal is to make works that women can see themselves in, and be a shining example of the beauty and strength of black women.
