Talespinner Children’s Theatre Offers Movement Workshop Inspired by The Remember Balloons

Talespinner Children’s Theatre (TCT) invites young performers and movers to take part in a special movement workshop inspired by its upcoming production of The Remember Balloons. The workshop will be held Saturday, October 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the Rainey Institute dance studio at the PIVOT Center.

Led by The Remember Balloons creator, director, and choreographer Dominic Moore-Dunson, the approximately 90-minute workshop will give participants an opportunity to explore how movement can be used to tell stories, express ideas, and connect with others.

Designed especially for young people who enjoy theatre and dance, the workshop is recommended for ages 6 and up. No previous dance experience is required.

Moore-Dunson is an Akron-based choreographer and dance artist who was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2023. His movement-based adaptation of The Remember Balloons, inspired by the award-winning children’s book by Jessie Oliveros, uses dance, storytelling, and original music to explore the memories families carry and share across generations.

The workshop is offered on a Pay-What-You-Choose basis. Each workshop registration also includes two complimentary tickets to TCT’s production of The Remember Balloons, presented October 16–17 at Near West Theatre.

The Remember Balloons opens Talespinner Children’s Theatre’s 15th anniversary celebration and features three original dancers/characters with music by Akron-based musician Theron Brown. TCT performances are designed with accessibility in mind and include relaxed and sensory-friendly supports.
