Title:      Manager, Public & Family Programs

Reports to:   Deputy Director – Curatorial

Schedule:    Part-time, some evenings & weekends.  Approximately 20 hours per week

Summary:

The Manager, Public and Family Programs oversees the creation, implementation, promotion, management, and evaluation of programming that is adjacent to exhibitions and collections interpretation and advances the Maltz Museum’s value of respect for all humanity. They will design and develop public programs that increase audience engagement and deepen connection to the Maltz Museum’s mission; work collaboratively with the Learning & Interpretation Department on teacher workshops, volunteer education and help develop new school audiences; create family programs, after- school activities and special projects related to youth and families; work with visitor services to ensure that programs meet the needs of visitors and members; and oversee special event programming and donor programs. Reporting to Deputy Director – Curatorial, this person will inform policies and procedures for successful operation of the museum as well as direction and strategy for audience- centered initiatives. This is a part-time, non-benefits-eligible position.

Responsibilities

  • Direct long-range planning for the museum’s full range of public and family programs.
  • Develop themes and experiences for individual programs, plan partnerships, and create budgets.
  • Research topics and secure speakers, moderators, and audiences for future programs.
  • Ensure programs are initiated, executed, monitored, and delivered on time, within scope and budget.
  • Oversee program presentations, including the introduction of participants and engaging members, donors, and supporters in attendance.
  • Maintains the Public and Family program budget and oversees expenses.
  • Measure, and evaluate public programs, audience outreach, and engagement strategies.
  • Forge and maintain cooperative partnerships with program-related organizations, universities, and other educational and cultural institutions.
  • Write funding proposals to individuals, foundations, government, and corporate agencies for Public Programming needs and contribute content to grant applications related to other areas of the museum’s work.
  • Present and report on department activities to museum members, donors, and colleagues as well as the public and special constituencies.
  • Provides staff assistance at major public programs, special exhibition openings and fundraising events.
  • Occasional liaison to media, particularly for broad questions regarding Judaism and to promote family days.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Jewish Studies, History, or another related field.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in an educational, museum, or non-profit setting.
  • Successful audience development, program evaluation, and grant writing.
  • Strategic thinker, with a proven history of designing and implementing programs that engage audiences.
  • Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Ohio State and National curriculum standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with ability to learn and use database system.
  • Creative, resourceful, and willing to take initiative.
  • Successful working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledgeable about Jewish culture with strong belief in diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed.

COMPENSATION: $34.00/hour.

Salary
