Fata Morgana, c. 1572. Giambologna (Flemish, active Italy, 1529–1608).
The Cleveland Museum of Art has acquired Fata Morgana, one of the greatest works by Giambologna (1529–1608), the preeminent sculptor of his generation, and the last known marble sculpture by his hand in a private collection.
This rare and internationally renowned figure is being shown in a gallery evoking the Tuscan grotto in which it was originally placed.
